Acetone-based nail polish remover. I don't recommend washing your hands with solvent. In order for acetone to work, you'll have to soak your fingers for a few minutes, and that's bad. If you let the CA sit, it'll flake off your skin within a day, no carcinogen required. The natural oils in your ski...

Is it possible to pour a thin layer of straight resin in the mold, slosh it around a bit until it sets, then pour another layer with the microballoons, slosh it around until it sets?<snip> Yes, but by the time you've poured your first layer, you would have what would amount to as a hollow casting (...

That method works for any kind of molding rubber that is stiff enough to support its own weight. The big problem you'll encounter if you cut your one-piece mold in half will be re-alignment. To do a 2-piece mold properly, you need to create interlocking keys. Simply cutting a zig-zag will not do eno...

Acetate shrinks is not a good plastic of choice for thermoforming. Styrene works well, but heats unevenly. By far the best (clear) plastic you can use for thermoforming is PETG (don't ask me what the acronym stands for). This plastic is inexpensive and widely available from plastic wholesalers in la...

I usually go right to fiberglass and resin. one layer of fiber glass, and two to three coats of resin. Then sand and fill, and sand and fill and sand... Same here. 1 layer of 1.4oz (lightweight plain weave) fiberglass cloth and a couple applications of resin will solve your problems. You mig...

Do you put a drop in the gravity feed well or do you have to take the needle out and wipe it down??? Don't do that because you'll contaminate any paint you want to spray later. Be very conservative with any foreign substance you put into your airbrush or else you'll be incorporating it onto the sur...

Sorry to hear that, you could have gotten a much better mini lathe at a cheaper price at Rockler. The JET mini-lathe is more reliable and far more stable at higher speeds.

Go for the Badger (number 1). You'll be happier with it in the long run because they are higher quality than the Paasche and you'll have a much easier time finding replacement parts and aftermarket accesories that will work with it. As for the compressor... make sure your hose fits (a badger airbrus...

Simple paint thinner or mineral spirits on a rag, then use an old toothbrush for the corners.joewhite wrote:I'm fairly new to resin. What is a good product that will strip paint and primer off of resin kits?
Don't use anything hotter (lacquer thinner is a no-no) or else you risk damaging the resin.
