which I think is so effective because of the local lighting effects. So maybe the secret is to include a little bit of carrier deck below your F-14 in the display and make it appear to be lit from the exhaust.

LEDs exposed or behind clear plastic?
So how do my fellow 1/350 refit modelers like to mount their LEDs? Specifically, let's say, the running lights. Do you open up the holes a bit and stick the LED in it or do you glue in the clear plastic "light" that came with the kit (i.e. part #216) and keep the LED behind it?
