I'm looking to remove cured Aves putty from a model. Any tips or tricks? I tried just picking at it with an x-axcto but it seems like a pretty good bond.
Pop it in the freezer? Hit it with the hair drier? Trash it and start over?
I squirt in a little thinner first, mix with a brush, then spray on a test area until the thinner in the tip sprays through and I'm getting consistent results.
along the vein of getting toys to do the work for you... I had an old talking Napoleon Dynamite plush doll. I never wanted it in the first place, but he is way past current so I had no issue with gutting him for the electronics. I only wanted the battery pack inside but kept the functioning electron...
I very much like the PolyScale dullcoat. It is too thick in the bottle for airbrushing, you'll need to thin it to about 30%. Also, airbrush it VERY THIN. If it looks liquid on the model, it's too thick, and can crackle. You airbrush it so you can see the glosscoat reflection go away. Stop then. If ...
Acetone is used to clean up and remove epoxy paints, glues, so soaking resin parts in acetone would have detrimental results. Because acetone evaporates so fast, just a wipe down should have little affect.
Like the subject asks. Is the Tamiya rattle can Clear Semi Gloss TS-79 a lacquer lacquer or is it some kind of enamel lacquer? I applied a clear coat from the spray can and later applied a couple of MIG filters and the surface is kinda tacky in some spots. The Tamiya site says they are lacquers, but...
I want to make a custom 3V battery pack using two 357 coin cells and a 2.5mm/5mm DC plug. Think of the pack as a plug in fuel pod. Can I solder the wires directly to the +/- with out damage to the cells? I know you can tack weld metal strips to cells, but what about the sustained heat of soldering? ...
60 watts, you're set. We had a demo 25watt laser at the office and I could cut 1/8" acrylic easily. .04" styrene, like butter. Acrylic - 60watt you may be able to cut 1/2" thick acrylic Styrene -adjust speed and strength or it will melt. If you're good you can easily create control pa...
Anyone have a good (cheep) source for those small 2tbs/ 40ml plastic cups for measuring resin. I've given up my addiction to cough medicine. Thanks. BK BTW. Applesauce and fruit cups are perfect for mixing just about anything in. Resin, washes, paint, etc. I've got a stack of these things and have t...
PlastiKote primer is my main primer and use it for the first primer application, I then use Mr Surfacer 500 from the jar thinned with Lac Thinner as a second level primer and then maybe 1000 from jar and thinned if I need a smooth final primer coat. Overspray is a problem to a certain degree with an...
Thanks for the input. The resin is tan and smells like bug spray. Someone mentioned that bug spray can be used as a mold release. They also mentioned soaking the parts in vinegar as a cleaning agent. Cut it with diesel fuel? Wouldn't it shrink? The kit is from a very reputable guy in Japan, but mayb...
I'm building a full resin kit of the GroßerHund. I've soaked the parts for two days in Simple Green and scrubbed with warm water. Mr Surfacer flaked right off. I've scrubbed the parts with Denatured Alcohol I've wiped the parts with Lacquer Thinner. It still feels like I've got lotion on my hands af...
Tamiya acrylics need to be thinned properly to brush paint. However, if you use their thinner or rubbing alcohol it can lift the previous coat if it is not set. Also, do not go back over an area after you have applied the paint until it has dried throughly. Brushing Tamiya paint over just applied Ta...
It sounds like the putty had not fully cured when you started to sand the first time. What are you sanding that requires 800 and 1200 sandpaper on Bondo? I've only ever used that high of grit when getting scratches out of clear parts. I stop at 600 on painted surfaces. Though I have never painted a ...
As interesting as it sounds, what what I understand from our GE rep. it's not really there yet. You want a cool finish. take a look at a PVD nickle finish with hand brushing. All of the brushed metal faucets you see now have this technique. On Plastic!
I always mix the Bondo hot. I put more hardener than I should. YOu can alwyas buy another tube pf hardener. Bondo can also be used for small stuff too: http://www.starshipmodeler.net/cgi-bin/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=30886 The fast setting time is what does it for me. Sometimes I'm not mixing up more t...
Be sure to clean the surface good, I've had Mr Resin Surfacer flake off styrene and resin. Once as a thick application for texture on the edge of a model and once Scoth Blue Masking tape tore the primer right off.
switch to Vallejo paints, they have the businees end of an eye dropper top and you squeeze out what you want. Or if you are stuck on MM paints, try and find eyedropper bottle like that and transfer your paints.
