BTW, did you know you can mix pastel dust to get different colors? It's not a real even mix but that can work to your advantage. I've found that this is the only way to tone down blast marks. Gives it that white scorched look. I apply it over the black oil blast marks (when dry, of course). I think...

Thanks for all the advice! I'll try some of these methods next time I go down to the base wood shop. I wonder if I could bother you guys again with another lathe question. Harbor Freight. They've got a $134 wood lathe minus chuck and stand. I've never dealt with this company. Any opinions? I'm a &qu...

Lathe Question
I now have access to a lathe but have a question. What's tyhe best way to chuck PVC piping? I notice quite a few scratch-builders turn PVC however the owner of the lathe nor myself could figure out a good way to chuck hollow piping. He recommended stuffing the ends with an appropriate sized and roun...

Castrol Super Cleaner
Not sure if this has been discussed lately. I recently decided to redo an old model of mine from scratch. I'd heard CSC is a good paint stripper. Well, while trying to find this stuff in my local area I found out, after calling Castrol, that they sold that product to another company. It's now just c...

I've never used the green kind but I have used the blue painters tape by 3M and a generic version. As far as those, I have noticed a bit of bleeding only when spraying heavy spray can coats. Lifting might be a problem if pulled quickly or left on for a long time...a week or more. You can also stick ...

chevyrumble, Future is a good for a clear sealer coat. It's very durable and especially protects soft acrylic paint coats. It's also very forgiving and so easy to apply. Alot of people use it as a gloss coat but I use it as a barrier between acrylic paint (that's what I use) and weathering pastel ch...

Thanks man! I forgot to mention one thing. The only potential drawback I could think of when using Delta paints is that I usually always get a flat to satin finish. It's not a bad thing for me since I like to add ground pastel chalks for weathering on a flat surface rather than a glossy then seal wi...

I have had lots of luck with Delta Ceramcoat. Check out PAGE 4 of my website for some pics of some of the results I have had. The trick to using Delta paints is Windex. Don't bother thinning by parts, just thin until you get the consistency of milk. I pullback on the needle of my 155 Anthem before I...

Glue Syringe
I've been building models for years and I just realized that one of major frustrations that may be holding me down from completing most of my projects are messy glue applications and having to clean/sand them up. I've always seen or heard of using syringes for precise glue applications. If you use t...
