Painting shadows

Has anyone ever done this? I'm looking to paint the shadow of a figure model I am doing. My goal is to have the shadow be different than the actual shadow of the figure would be. I was considering airbrushing a clear smoke color to create the shadow, and then flat coating over it. Is there a better ...

How is Calamari Ships narrower that Corellian Freighters? I actually think that the poll choices are narrow enough. You mentioned that 'Freighters' was in the lead. The category in the poll is 'Corellian Freighters' which is a narrower field. This category will most likely result in models both as s...

With Alfred's Millennium Falcon , Zarkus's Outrider , and hopefully my Otana all coming out in the next year or so (I'm guessing on the timetable here), and judging by the vote for the next possible unofficial contest, is anyone interested in doing the Corellian Freighters contest with a deadline so...

Okay, I have one question that I am hoping someone (possibly one-zero) can shed some light on.

Is this a Sci-fi Contest?

I have seen several great ideas, but they don’t seem to be “Sci-fiâ€￾ as the other contests have been. If it’s not a “Sci-fiâ€￾ contest, fine, but if it is, what qualifies? Just because it may be alternative history doesn’t mean “Sci-fi.â€￾

In my opinion:
1) If model idea is; What if the Germans had mech-warriors in WWII instead of Panzers?, that’s Sci-fi. If it’s; What if the Germans created F-15s?, that’s not.
2) If model idea is; What if the Canadian Mounties rode Triceratops?, that’s Sci-fi. If it’s; What if the Mounties were Russian?, that’s not.

I know that there are many military plane and armor builders out there, but if this is a “Sci-fiâ€￾ contest, does what if ‘country A’ built ‘plane/tank X’ instead of ‘country B’ qualify as “Sci-fi.â€￾ Fiction, yes, but Science Fiction, I’m not so sure about.

I’m just curious, because if we have one Starfleet (What if the Borg joined the Federation instead of trying to assimilate it?) ship entry, and 35 armor and military entries, how will it be judged.

I’m just trying to generate ideas and, as I am not a big military modeler, want to know along what thought lines I should thinking.

My wife is considering coming with me, but is not a modeler. I think her plan at this point is to let me wander WF while she goes to Six-Flags to feed her rollercoaster addiction. I figure that this is the best of both worlds. She may even bring a friend or two with her. This way we get to hang out ...
