White glue or wood glue should work fine. Epoxy will also work. Superglue ( cyanoacrelate ) will melt the stuff, as will regular styrene cement. If time permits, I'd use the insul-foam as a base, and build the 'book' out of paper mache'. Poster paints would probably be the way to go for the finish....

I may play around with a few mixtures to see what I get. The Dio I was doing however may not need it. once the basic land forms were in place the road just seems to be too much. But who knows.... :D

Ok this place looked like the best place to put this. I need to model a stretch of two lane blacktop that has been chewed up by a crashing U.F.O. . The scale I am using is /72 (The aliens are freakin' huge GAME OVER MAN!) . The ship is crashed into the side of a hill and has pushed up under the edge...

I like your suggestions for the 'rules' I'd say add that the design has to be new and not one mentioned in a book, comic, game, or other published source. The reason I suggested switching the contest was I am unaware of enough corellian frieghter designs to establish what MAKES them a corellian desi...

Well I was going to wait and let the poll decide for me right now Frieghters are ahead by 3. I'm thinking frieghters is more open than TIES were and NEW Republic ships are REALLY way open. The reason the TIE contest was so cool was we were forcing our designs to fit the TIE basics (Solar panels etc....

I think I agree prizes will muddy the water and frankly I can't think of a reliable way to collect and distribute money or gifts etc. So i think we should just keep prizes out of it.

That may be the best idea (as opposed to no prize at all) that way we don't have to hunt down sponsors. I could maybe donate $25 myself.

I'd rather work within the established limits, but that is good idea for another contest, the focus of the TIE contest was to work within the basic TIE design, and making that concept 'fit in' with the rest of the SW universe bt being a totally new design. We'd do the same for the above sugested the...

Our two lucky finalists are.......Drum roll please........... The TIE/Infiltrator with 54% of the popular vote from contest 2. and The TIE/Obliterator with 63% of the popular vote from contest 1. Now the tough decision, which of these two fine models gets to take home the gold... umm well actually t...

That's an option too. We'll have to see how many people we can get involved and see about what type of sponsor if any we can find or however else we can work it.

Heck Maybe if nothing else we could throw together a nice sized bits box to offer as a prize. Make each person donate a sandwhich baggie (or bigger) full of spare parts or maybe I can score a few odd ball kits at the outlet store. But I think with offering prizes we would want to make it extra clear...

7 out of 35 isn't bad considering there was no prize involved and we ran head long into another contest. The lack of communication was a bit of a let down. The major factor in that on my end was I didn't have a camera to show updates, but that will soon change (I hope). Plus people have a habit of h...

Should we have another "contest" or should we stop

I myself would like to see this sort of thing continue (With 1-0 blessing of course) it promoted some great designs and actually got me working during a slump. So should we call it quits or what should our next theme be? Using the same guidelines as the original TIE contest naturally.

The no Dioramas thing kills my one REALLY good idea. It's not something like a what if based on technology but more on events, and how they play out combining a fiction creation with an Historical event. To make it work theres no way to do it as a stand alone model because it's like a snapshot of th...
