Oh that is excellent, thanks folks. I think I'll use that to cast copies of the little engine inserts for my current build, a Fine Molds Millennium Falcon in 1/72. I will use that silicone and will make a go at water clear resin.

Re: Rubber for molds

It is possible to scan to get a 3D map, which I think can be compiled as an stl.
The Illinois State Museum sends animal skulls in for a CT scans, which allow them to replicate with a printer.
I think that also be amenable to laser shaping.

Re: Are Paint Fumes Hazardous to Your Health?

I would think that paint fumes would cause greater harm to the liver than to the nervous system. Not saying it doesn't harm the neurons, of course. During inhalation, there greater biological availability for transport across the Alveoli membrane into the bloodstream, where the liver is then stuck w...

Re: Rubber for molds

I'm giving this thread renewed attention due to a need for knowledge. In this case, I bought an old-school Marantz stereo receiver, from their champagne-gold era. One of the faders is missing the little handle on the end. Bu the others can be (carefully) removed and reinstalled. So this is a good ch...

Zubie good point,

I think the gloss clear probably would work.
Maybe add some Tamiya retarder and some of their acrylic thinner, so that it has a chance to self-level before drying.

Any other brand updates or recommendations?

If you have trouble finding Future/Pledge/Floor Shine, I have had good luck dipping in Windsor and Newton clear acrylic varnish. I have the stuff from the Galeria product line and it self levels beautifully.

Re: Dissimilar plastics cement

I have had success with the Loctite plastic bonder set. It consists of a felt pen with some organic volatile and CA glue. The pen might outlast the ca glue, so I tested it with a few different brands and viscosities of CA, and most the brands were successful with the pen. It is worthwhile to prep th...

Thank you as well for the Hayes Paper link. Which printers are people using in the year 2022 A.D.? I notice Epson and Cannon both advertise consumer-grade printers that are capable of photo quality prints. And there seems to be a population of gently used printers of that variety online. I like to f...

Re: Tamiya acrylics applied with a brush

I have had fantastic luck when brushing using Tamiya Retarder and Gunze Sangyo Mr. Levelling Thinner. If using Tamiya Thinner, a little goes a long way. Don't do 50/50, or the paint will get weird. If you want your Tamiya to be a thin coat, add maybe 10% Tamiya retarder to the mix, and 10%-20% good ...
