Re: Stupid question, but....
Greebles?? Who says that? I would agree that "greeblies" is Star Warsian... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dncRHH9f6MI Probably a Canadian says greebles, they say all kinds of weird stuff. :ptl: Oh yes... thank you for that video link! This is solidifying my 'Greeblie' designation. Georg...

Re: Stupid question, but....
Ever have the urge to add surface detail that when viewed at a certain angle and lit from a certain angle that if forms the appearance of something that vaguely looks like a 1940s-era pinup -- then call it Betty Greeble? [shrug] aluminium or aluminum... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5YKLxWRXo4 t...

Re: Stupid question, but....
Ah thanks guys... I wasn't imagining this. You see I'm in the process of learning hard surface modeling in Blender and many of the tutorials I see about adding surface detail to mechanical shapes, ships etc. use the word Greebles, (which kinda' irritated me). I think it has something to do with most...

Stupid question, but....
Years ago when the OG - Star Wars hit our culture and articles describing the construction of the miniatures were written, I for some reason thought the word used was 'Greeblies'. Now It's 'Greebles'... no 'I' in the word. Has it always been G R E E B L E S and I just read it wrong? I know... earth ...

Re: Best clear plastic??
You have to "pre-heat" and "cook"Lexan/polycarbonate for a while otherwise it will bubble and blister on the inside. I'll admit that it's been years, but I don't remember having to do that. I could be very wrong... (like I said, it has been years). I just remember liking the fin...

I found it! After a bit of digging I saw the name of the stuff I used... Lexan .030 thickness.

Re: Best clear plastic??
A lot of the model airplane guys use PET, I understand; never tried it myself. I'll have to investigate that one. I want something that I can use the same as what I did with the canopy for Slave One. I plan to make some in whatever shape I desire and, as good as the blister pack idea is, I'd find t...

Best clear plastic??
Hi all, years ago I wanted to make a better canopy for my old MPC Slave-One. Someone recommended a clear styrene, (I believe) and it looks great. At the time I had to use a technique where I heat it and pulled it over the master. I now have an old Mattel Vac-form toy I'd like to use for this and wou...

Re: 1/72 Armor for Greeblies'
HO model railroad detail parts also make good 'greeblies,' steam engine parts in particular. Found a model train store near work & they have quite allot of fine detail parts for HO scale trains that fill the bill nicely! Thanks much! For anyone near the Burbank, Ca. area that's looking for simi...

Re: Design Morphing - does it happen to anyone else?
I started a couple of scratch builds years ago, but I never really had a locked down concept. That was my first lesson... design the darned thing first! I'm now working on a project where I did get the basic major shapes I wanted, that define the overall ship. This has helped tremendously, however t...

Re: 1/72 Armor for Greeblies'
It was called 'Star Crash' here in the U.S. Actually I think the full title was 'Star Crash: The Adventures of Stella Star', kinda says it all doesn't it? Well, gird your loins, take your Dramamine.... Here ya' go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzfuNSpP0RA The only reason to see it was the beautif...

Re: 1/72 Armor for Greeblies'
Just don't go the Stella Starr route and glue entire sprue trees onto the model! Saw it in the theater and I was going, "Uhh... that's the tree from a Mk. III panzer..." Production values on that film were..... Less than stellar! \:D/ Kev Oh dear Lord no! LOL... I remember seeing previews...

Re: 1/72 Armor for Greeblies'
Thanks TazMan200 & SpaceRanger1. There is a model shop near where I work & they sell both model kits & HO Railroad items. So I'm definitely going to see what's available. I definitely want details that aren't readily identifiable... that kind of ruins the illusion for me. Especially afte...

1/72 Armor for Greeblies'
Hi Gang .. I have the 'Leopold & Mortar 'Karl' railway gun kits, but what other tank/ armor kits would you recommend for a good greeblie selection? I'm thinking that modern tank kits would be a good start. I'm particularly interested in smaller, cool detail parts than anything, but I'd love to p...

Scratch-Building for Resin Casting
Hi Guys. I'm currently scratch building a ship I designed, so that I would be able to cast it in resin. I'm building it in a way that I can cast it with a hollow hull. My main concern is that the sheet plastic I'm using is a bit on the thin side. How thin do you think I can get away with, so that th...

Thanks for the info... just saved me a buttload of a headache. I guess I should think more along a different way to call out the details I want. It should be easy with larger ship designs, but with smaller, (fighter) craft maybe the scribbing technique you talked about would be the best way to go......

Thanks guys for the response. I take it that it's not something I really need to worry about then? I'm likely jumping the gun here, as I'm just now getting a handle on some of the most basic modeling functions. Right now I'm trying to figure out the best way to create intersecting panel lines..;) A ...

Hi Guys, As it turns out, I'm now taking a class in Rhino, which is great! But I just saw a video (curse you You Tube! ) on Solidworks, which seems like a more natural fit for producing kits... any of you ever use it for something like that? I think I'm still gonna commit to Rhino for now, as I'm ge...
