Re: Diffusion via sheet styrene

Perhaps, but most of my 30+-year-old plastic model kits that have been sitting in a dark box all these years without being exposed to sunlight at all have still turned yellow. The plastic also gets brittle with age. I'm sure exposure to UV very likely accelerates that process. But, styrene parts are...

Control 2 sets of lights using the same 2 wires?!

If you’re the type of person who likes to add “blinky” lights to your projects, here’s a clever little brain-teasing puzzle: How can you make alternating flashing lights using only 2 wires? Conventional thinking would suggest you need 3 wires to make this work. But, recently I purchased some LED lig...

Hey Jesse! When we built the model for the movie "C" I came up with a pretty neat effect. I selected a clear canopy from a WWII bomber that was basically shaped like a hemisphere but with some detail on it. I then took a Dremel and carved radial "ribs" in a star pattern. The ligh...

I'd have to research the unit to know more, sorry no time for that at the moment. You should try to find out if it has a minimum load requirement or if it's safe to use with no load. It's better to get one that's safe for no load conditions. It's frustrating I know but you have to dig for info and p...

There are always several different ways to accomplish something. I tend to think of "good, better, best" like the old Sears catalog used to classify things. If you want the "Best" practices for your model wiring, plan carefully and make darned sure it will be bullet proof for the...

It's a linear power supply that's regulated. There are basically two types -- linear and switching. A linear power supply is the "old fashioned" type that's been around for a long time. They are less complex, often cheaper, but can be bulky. A switching power supply is constructed quite di...

Ressurecting an old thread. If you want your project to be virtually guaranteed to WARP, use foamcore. It will warp if you give it so much as a stern look. ;) If you want your assemblies to be light, strong, and dimensionally stable, use Gatorboard instead. This stuff is slightly heavier, more expen...
