diorama plans, need some help on lighting

I've been cruising this forum as well as the general internets in search of a few things and I'm not really finding them so thought I'd chirp up for some help. The diorama is an Aliens Based Diorama so I need some lighting effects. I've been able to find strobes for LED's, so thats cool as well as s...

holy cow, the first technique you posted is actually pretty dang close to perfect for what I need, now here's a tricky question - is there a good way to bond styrene sheet to foam insulation?

any tricks for making hollow 'shells'?

the piece I need to make is probably best comparable to say, a helmet, but a thick one, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about making it. It needs to be about the size of a nerf football. I'm keeping my eyes out for something apropriately shaped to act as a form but I was wondering if...

My first lighting project, looking for some tips

I'm currently reading through the threads in this forum and some other sources for what I can but I don't know a whole lot about electricity or lighting LED's and I'm finally ready to try it for the first time. This is a gaming related project, I want to build a small diorama display type base for s...

no specific size in mind. I have a hard time making nice well rounded spheres and it would be really cool to have them in styrene if I can find them.

Styrene spheres?

Is there anyone out there that makes styrene spheres? I can get tubes of various shapes, sheets, and various other details but I'm wondering if there is a manufacturer who makes different sizes of spheres or other 3D shapes?

I'd thought about creating the templates in styrene, I have a template with all the circles I need on it now made of styrene, problem is in my experience it always tends to shave off styrene as you go. I think I've come up with a solid plan though, since I plan on making a mold and casting the parts...

lol, that things waaaay too big for my needs at the moment. I'm doing a scratchbuilt miniature of the Enterprise A. the Primary hull is only about 1 1/2" across so it's got to be small and decliate like!

I was thinking about experimenting with thick paper clips tonight if I get the chance

The olfa looks like something I'd be comfortable using on this job. I have hand scribers in my work kit now but they're not going to work well for this job I'm doing. If I can't find an olfa-like cutter I may have to jury rig something from a compass.

Scribing circles?

Anyone have a good idea for easily scribing small circles? I need to scribe some circles on an irregular surface from about 1/2" to around 1 1/4 inches in width. I don't have a steady enough hand to draw the circles and do it free hand and it's important I get thes clean.

That's what I was wondering, seems if I just made a negative of the piece I should be able to use that. I'll have to look at working on it here in the next week or two.

let me see if I follow correctly! Once I get the piece detached and cut the way I want - Make a plaster mold of the piece. Follow that by making a plaster cast of that mold. I can use that piece as the master for my styrene sheet correct? I had planned on building an apropriately sized frame to use ...

Need some advice on vacu-molding

Ok, so my girlfriend has this hair dryer she said I could steal and bust apart to use to make a model. What I'd like to do is pop the shell open and use the top half to make a vacu form mold to pull hot styrene down over (I don't know if that's technically vacu-form since I'm not realy using a vacuu...

Weathering gaming miniatures?

Hey, I've been looking through the forum for the last few days trying to decide how I want to weather some of my MaK gaming miniatures: http://www.starshipmodeler.net/cgi-bin/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=39094 I've used a dark oily black to make it look like the engine cover in the rear is scorched and bu...

wow, didn't know someone actually just made ball sockets!

Chacal, the weight isn't an issue really, its mostly size, the size of these parts will be on the small side, a centimeter or two long at most.

Working on some swappable sockets, need some ideas

Hey guys I've got some ideas for some small swappable sockets for various models, something to let you plug in modular pieces, but I need to locate some material to work with to see what's possible. Initially it's either a simple ball and socket concept where the ball is a soft plastic tip that can ...

advice on weathering miniatures for play

Ok, so I'm putting together some MaK miniatures for wargaming but I'd like to be able to give them good paint jobs and some good weathering and I'm trying to decide how to do that. The big thing is that they're going to have some high traffic, meaning people will have their grubby paws all over them...

ok this is exactly the kind of discussion I was looking for. Currently I'm working with floral foam (the really easy to carve green and brown stuff) and then coating it in bondo. It works, but I'm running into a problem with sanding and so I'm looking for something that goes on a little more smoothl...
