Re: Fixing panel line messes

Thanks mate. That sucks about the hardness. Hadnt factored that in, and have only done it in gen filling/smoothing stuff. I hate that im so paranoid about trying to fix it, but it'd be the tie for the biggest scribing ive ever tried, with my first attempt being its co winner. Not to mention that the...

Re: Fixing panel line messes

Good info on both, thanks. I had thought about ca but was hesitant because a: never tried it before, and b: i did the lines w mechanics picks, so theyre wider than id like, and i was concerned about filling all that space. Maybe the talc/ca method? Ive done that before for normal gap filling. I did ...

Fixing panel line messes

Hey folks. Been a while, but its been a rough decade-ish. So anyway, i have the older 1/72ish slave 1 that i got many moons ago. At the time i was feeling really optimistic, and decided to ditch the raised panel line for scribed. (An example of why i try not to be optimistic). The scribing job i did...

Actually its (was:wink: ) wall powered, but one arm from the cell runs to a brn/blk/org/gold resistor, which runs into one of the 3 (-) terminals on an IC, and the positive output arm from the IC then runs to the LED (+) arm. And the other arm of the of the sensor is also tied in there as well (hope...

Oh, and be really careful with that 110VAC night light. I'd remove the 110V part and just use the LED and CDS cell bit at low voltage. FYI Sorry, didn't mean it that way, I already dumped the outlet connections etc, I've just been playing around w/ the circut board/led/solar sensor, seeing what poi...

basic photosensors

I picked up wally world light sensitive led nightlight the other day, and have been playing with it for my halloween beasties mk2 project, but I'm still kinda fuzzy on the theory/application side of things. net searches haven't helped much either. anybody here have a basic primer on these things and...

Well for anybody thats interested heres a couple of pics of the finished "beasties". I tried the sb leds, but it didn't work out, so I just made them static, but I think they worked well, and now I've got a whole year to get the mkII's worked out, I'm thinking blinking, and maybe some kind...

Thanks folks, I'll probably check out all 3 options this weekend, once I can hit the "radio crap" (I don't think I'll have enough lead time to wait for mail order) Roughly how much do the self blinkers go for retail? Also, wouldn't it just be easier to use one SB and a non blinker? save an...

Quick and dirty halloween LED idea, best way?

Our house has a fairly hefty stand of woods beside it, and I've had this idea bouncing around in my head for a couple of weeks, I'm just not sure of the best way to build it: Basically I want to set up pairs of LED's in the woods to simulate glowing "eyes" looking out onto our street. My f...

Saving a screwed up "near final" paint job?

As it stands, I've got 2 kits right now (non sf, but the rules still hold) that were in the final stages of paint, after main assembly. Each has had a different kind of mishap, and I'm racking my brain for solutions that don't involve total teardown/strip/rebuild. On one, I have the fuse...

Homegrown solutions for putting straight lines on greeblies?

Short version is that I actually had a neat idea for the AMT tie interceptor I've been working on lately, but the stumbling block has become the paintjob. Specifically, it's going to have a design on the outer wing panels, thats going to have to cross over the center mounting area, so far, nothing i...

From that shot, I'd say it was repair people spraying over chipped paint at the panel seams. You could do that with a very fine airbrush line (I've seen this done on models in magazines). navy planes on carriers seem to have a lot of this, which really stands out. Actually the Navy stuff was my ori...

Panel weathering (sf and non)

I'm not even sure the best way to describe this but here goes, please bear with me, LOL. The basic effect is an aircraft done in a basic (usually grey) 1 or 2 color scheme, but the panel lines always show a lighting toward the edge, and darker towared the center. Basically adding to the whole camo e...

Hadn't thought about the glazing putty idea..."D'OH". Thanks guys, I'll definatly be checking them out the next time I'm at Wally-World. Thats actually the main reason I started using "improvised" fillers, theres only one hobbyshop with 10-15 miles, and getting out that way durin...

"Cutting" bondo?

One of my umpteen projects is going to need a bit of filling, and bondo has lately become my filler of choice, but for one question. Anyone got any suggestions for something that will remove/allow working with in the same way that some modeling puttys can be "cut" with rubbing alcohol to g...

looking for a particular "led" link

Hi folks, My problem is that I'm looking to light another of my kits, and the site I always used is missing (along with most of our favorites, at least anything less than 2 yrs old. Don't ask, some kind of netscape weirdness. ) Anyway, somebody posted a link here for a site that could calculate the ...
