Well, I've been looking into this over the last week. Antenociti's Workshop is a place where I usually get my foam. It's based in the UK, which is a plus for me. I've been chatting with Jed, the owner and he's informed me that he'll be stocking Aves products in the next week or so. So, good news rea...

Thanks for that, I'm thinking of going down the Aves road, but I was really hoping to find something here in the UK that I can just pop out and get easily when I run out.

Yeah, I mentioned using a resin earlier as I can get that easily. So to use it I basically just need to seal the foam? Would PVA be suitable? Just paint on, dry, and go to town with the resin?

That suits me down to the ground.

Well that thread was brief. Maybe it has the same qualities on car body work, but not when it comes to styrofoam??

Would Bondo be expensive to get shipped to the UK? I'll look into that later.

I was afraid of someone saying that. Bar did a test the other night for me as he already had Isopon P38 in his garage. When he went to check on it the stuff was bubbling!! No good. Halfords has "Locktite Porfessional Bodyfiller" but I don't know how it'd work. I'm asking here before trying...

Cheap is good. Always. :D So what happens to the foam? Does the foam continue to melt after the Bondo has cured? Or is it safe underneath the bondo. You hear about some paints on vinyl figure kits being applied and everything seems ok, later sometimes as long as years later, the vinyl breaks down. A...

Thanks for that. Would epoxy resin be suitable? The type used for laminating and coating? Maybe something that could just be painted on and sanded smooth.

I'm not against using milliput again, it is tough whe set. I'm just trying to look into alternatives.

Looking for a suitable skin for foam

Hi guys and gals, I'm in the UK, and I'm looking for a suitable medium for skinning styrofoam models. Aves isn't readily available here, I used Milliput once but it wasn't the easiest to work with over a large area and reguired a lot of extra anding. I tried rolling it out and even thinning it with ...

Cool, thanks for that. Who'd have thought that these things were so usefull for other purposes?

I was going to leave the oven cleaner on overnight but was paranoid about it melting the plastic or something.

I've not heard of that one. Is it an american brand or something? This Mr Muscle I use didn't shift the acrylic paint. It's Citidel Minitaires paint for Warhammer40k.

What do you do remove paint like that?

:D :D :D It works! There's no damage to the plastic/styrene. The paint just slips right off. It didn't do anything to the acrylic undercoat/prima though. It only stripped off the enamel (Humbrol and Revell). I think it may have affected the glueing. It was shoddy before, but I'm sure the nacelles ar...

Alternative to model paint stripper.

Hi guys, Not sure if this is the right place for this tip. I discovered this tonight in an act of desperation to strip off a nasty paint job on a second hand part-built 1701-E. I had no modelsrtip and was too impatient to wait for an order, So I got out the oven cleaner!!! That's right, 'Mr Muscle' ...

Yeah, I've read some of it but would the same rules apply here being as the size is different and there's more detail to take into account. I also want to copy the other parts like nacelles and engineering hull.

Can you not just reduce the size by say 50%? The image should print the same size if you select A4 paper. It'll just reduce the pixel count and therefore the memory? Being as Pendragon decals are of a large dpi the image shoudn't lose too much clarity when printing.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok, I've posted some pics. The first link here is for my first attempt. It's nothing to write home about but it got me started. I say you've got it good. I'm a full time dad so I do all chores, look after the kids and shop for food. My other half is career minded so works alot. When she's home though, she wants me all to herself which is nice. However, it's sods law that she happens to have the night off when I've got some q...

Tips for creating your own decals

Hi again, I'm fairly new here, and have only recently restarted my passion for Star Trek models. Before, I was never really interested in acurizing models and thought that my brush skills were top notch. Until I dragged out my old models from storage. They were terrible. I can't believe I ever thoug...
