I've never had to make 'water' before, and there are some good ideas here. I also would suggest a sewing machine foot pedal. Better/variable control, and you can rev it up between holes to keep the motor cool.

Swiches from an old mouse might work better. They are almost always 'reed' or disk switches, 'specially in the 9-11 dollar models. Hence why they 'click' verses a membrane that does not; normally, click.
