I came across this YouTube video - Vader diorama with lighted saber.
The guy used a VERY interesting solution that will certainly fit to many of our projects!!,

I was planning to use in my Falcon cockpit, but after some tests I found its brightness too weak, unusable to me. Would work only in darkness. As bright as those Indiglo wristwatches.
I ended up using LEDs instead, with better results.

Yep. I was talking about the EL sheet.
I have no experience on ropes/strings.

I was disappointed with EL brightness.
I was planning to use it in Falcon's cockpit. I would say it has some glow, but none of the brightness I expected.
I am using fiber optics instead.
For the engines I will use LEDs.
