I've had bad experiences with Testors clear yellowing, but that was long ago, and they may have changed their formulation since. Because of that, I got leery of Testors, and I've been using a lot of Tamiya clear lately; it does not seem to yellow. On a model car I built four years there's no sign o...

I'm downright religous when it comes to using seperate popsicle sticks for each tube so I don't think it's cross contamination. It could definately be improperly mixed or thinned, however. Also, when next I buy Aves, should I get the Putty as opposed to the paste? Unless you're trying to fill very ...

A question: I've thinned my Aves Apoxie Paste with alcohol to get a speadable consistancy, but it takes forever to harden to a point I can sand it. Will heat cure it? Can I put it in the oven for a bit? Hold it over my space heater? And if the oven is acceptable, is there any danger because I thinn...

Good finishing technique on an opaque canopy?
After a quick search, I couldn't find a related thread, so forgive me if I'm double posting. If anyone knows of a related thread, feel free to point me to it. I'm working on a 1/144 scale spacecraft model. Due to the small size, the cockpit canopy is cast in solid resin. I'm trying to determine how ...

Heating styrene with a candle flame sucks. Not only is the heat too intense, you often end up with soot residue on the part. I'm speaking from experience. :x I've found that immersing the part in boiling water works better. Not only is the heat more evenly distributed, it isn't as intense, so there'...

OK; I just tried Aves out for the first time on a kit-bash project I'm working on. AMAZING! :D :D This stuff is super-easy to work with. After 2 minutes of kneading, I was able to easily smooth it into the nooks and crannies of the piece I'm working on, and with a little water, my fingers, and the e...

Quetion/concern regarding LEDs
Hi gang. This might be a stupid question, but don't LEDs burn out? I've frequently seen burned out bulbs on Christmas tree lights, and I'd hate to go through the trouble of building a lighted kit, only to have the bulbs go out on me. It would suck to have to tear the thing apart, re-install new LEDs...

O.K., I've been digging around on the internet looking for a place to order Spaz Stix from, and some of the information that I came across has me puzzled. One site said that the Chrome aerosol is only designed to be used for painting on the inside of transparent RC car shells, and that viewing the p...

There are three variations of these finishing compounds in the SSM store. I'll ask John to comment about them when he returns later. Thanks for the link, LindaSmile. :) Are these compounds actual metallic paint, or are they some kind of polish? What you prolly want it Spaz-Stix. They've got a rattl...

Any suggestions on getting a shiny, metallic finish?
Hi. I'm in the planning stages of building an Andromeda Ascendant kit, and I'm trying to determine what is the best way to achieve a silvery-metallic reflective finish (as close to the CGI model as I can get). I've heard horror stories about using Alclad; it sounds about as simple as defusing a tick...
