Help! Peelin' Primer

Do you know what's going on when primer is flaking off a resin part? It's just so weird that the primer just scrapes off. I washed it before I started working on it, but even my self-etching primer is failing me. Specifically, the part is the saucer piece for a 2500 FedMod Centaur. I've never had a ...

Thanks DaveVan. I really did not trust it, so I pulled on the pieces really hard and managed to separate them. I will use CA to join them when I'm ready. Best part is that the fit is now very snug

Plastruct Weldene works on resin?

A good friend of mine gave me the VA Miniatures 2500 scale "Command Cruiser." I don't like the design, so I'm doing my own thing. I decided to turn it into a deep space science vessel, so I scratchbuilt a support strut out of styrene for a sensor pod that would fit where the third nacelle ...

Vinyl Model Construction

I have not built a vinyl kit in two decades (literally, the first and last one I did was in 1993). All I remember is that I needed to reinforce the parts from the inside and that you have to be careful because some paints can dissolve vinyl. I can't remember what glue I used... So now that I have th...

Peeling resin?

Eons ago I got PNT's Mini Mechas' Avenger Class model. This morning I started working on it and the resin on the engines and torpedo pod is coming off in layers. As first they were thin sheets so I thought it was leftover mold material, but now the sheets are getting thicker. Does anyone know what's...

Well, he could be. You know, AMS. It affects us all :P

Seriously, he could have completed it and shown it off at one of the meetings I didn't attend. Or he brought it in soon after he bought it to show it off, did the usual sprue fondling and then put it away unbuilt.

Someone in my model club is building this kit too, though it's been a couple of months since he brought it to a meeting. Loved what you did with it, though. The "used" looks is impressive

The idea came from looking at an RBoP and seeing the curvature of the ship as half a warbird. If I were to attach two RBoPs together by connecting the top of the nacelles it would create a TOS version of a warbird. The question became what to do with the head. Since TOS had an art decco flavor in it...

That's simple, go to

File>>Export>>2d Graphic

It will save a jpg of your current screen.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. Shapeways may be the route I go. I'll have to find out if they can print at angles:

I can split that in half and have them print both halves... :-k

Thanks Ziz, but it's not a base. Its the "head" of a concept TOS-era Warbird scratchbuild idea I have. That's what's giving me pause about the cost because it's meant to go on a one-off model

Cost of 3D Printing?

So I designed this little thing (about 6 cm x3 cm x3 cm) and asked the printer guys that my wife's firm uses for their stuff and I got a quote of $150. I didn't expect it to be cheap, but I didn't expect it to be that, either. Think of something with somewhat of a complex shape... and please indicat...

Success at last!

As you know, earlier this month I took the build-in-a-day challenge and failed miserably with Delta Quadrant’s 1/2500 Galor. http://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/viewtopic.php?t=100965 This Friday (yesterday 6/29) I decided to take up the challenge again and this time I did it! Where’s my balloon dro...

Excellent try, though, Gouf! Doing a model in a day is a lot harder than it sounds, simply because there is little room for error. You spend too much time on one piece of the buildup and bam! Time's up.

I'll try to do the same as my attempt with the Galor. I'll get up at some time and use the next 24 hours from then on. Also like my attempt with the Galor I know right off the bat that I'll lose a couple of hours for date night. That's what I get for choosing to do this on a Friday :)
