Re: Rotating Police Strobe Lights Effect
Well, I finally found a way to built the light bars. Using 3 separate circuits. I opted for 3 SMDs per light, with 36 x 0805 SMDs total. Two careless mistakes though.. First one, is that one yellow light in the rear light bar, rotates in the opposite direction lol The second one is those two green l...

Connecting Circuits (boards) to the same Power Supply
Hi all! Like the title says, when connecting several different blinking circuits (boards) to the same power supply, the boards are connected in parallel - right? If so, do I have to worry about amperage the same way as for LEDs when they are connected in parallel, and add an appropriate resistor to ...

Re: Rotating Police Strobe Lights Effect
lol EVApodman! If that happens, I'll send them to you. Thank you for the help, Kylwell. Very interesting projects. The site is booked :) Well I found a code for a Arduino for the modern "pulsating" effect that I'll use for the bar above the rotating lights in the front. As for the rotating...

Re: Rotating Police Strobe Lights Effect
I like that effect Ant!
Except that I need 13 like this one lol.
(thought it was 12, but I forgot one red light on the roof).
I may have found a way, but it will still require 3 circuits. And the wiring will be insane lol

Re: Rotating Police Strobe Lights Effect
Thanks for the help EVApdman. It's 12 rotating lights, each rotating light made up of 4 SMDs. So 48 SMDs in all lol I'll probably have to make 4 or 5 circuits. I actually didn't think of wiring 4 SMDs in series! I was thinking of wiring them in parallel, but was worried about the amperage. But if wi...

Rotating Police Strobe Lights Effect
Hello! I'm looking for a diagram to create a rotating effect for the lights of my Ecto-1a build. For example grouping 4 SMDs in a square with a chasing effect that creates the illusion of a single rotating light... I know how to create a chasing circuit using 10 LEDs with a 555 and 4017 chip, but I ...

Fiber Optics Cables
When you buy fiber optics, do you buy the entire cable with so many fiber optics in it, or just single fibers?
I found this site and am wondering if I should get these...

Airbrushing Clear Parts
Hi folks! I'm new at airbrushing, and wanted to know how do you paint clear parts with clear paint. What's the pressure, distance, paint consistency, and so on that you should have? I tried and the result was a blutchy job. I had more paint in some areas and not enough in others. It wasn't un...

Epoxy Not Curing...
I'm building the AMT 'E', and I'm using 2-part epoxy to cement all the DLM parts. It says to mix it 50/50 - what I did. The epoxy never completely cured. So I cleaned the parts from the epoxy and tried mixing more hardener this time, and it still doesn't cure. I even tried adding some hardener for c...

Looking for LM3909N or NTE876
Hello fellow modelers! I'm trying to build a blinking circuit for my AMT refit, but I can't find any of these two chips on the internet.... Did anyone already order these chips and could give me a link? It's going to be my first blinking circuit, so I'm not yet familiar where is the best place to fi...

Thanks for all the info. I will try to buy a few kinds to try them out. My third question would be where do you guys purchase these from? I live in Canada so I'm not sure if the same putties are found in stores here. I searched the internet for some online stores: http://www.michtoy.com/MTSCnewSite/...

Kinds of Putty
I was wondering what kind of putties and techniques are out there to fill out holes and seams. I know there are different topics about it, but they are scattered all over the place. Hard to find exactly what I'm looking for. What I always used is a Tamiya modeling putty in a tube. It's not bad, but ...

Woah! It started working! All the chips work! I soldered all the components on the socket instead of soldering them on the chip. I soldered the components EXACTLY the same way than on the chips before. Now it's working, and before it didn't. Weird... Now... I found a nice blinking pattern, but how c...

Well, I went to buy 5 more 4060 chips today (thinking that maybe I burnt the other 5 while soldering), along with the sockets in case I would use the soldering iron again. :P First, I didn't want to solder them, so I tested each new chip on a solderless breadboard and making that circuit one more ti...

Zog, don't get me wrong, I understand your diagram and I thank you for it :) Like I said, one chip works fine, but the other 4 seem to be defective... maybe I didn't solder the components well... or the components could be defective? I'll play more with the circuit tomorrow. If I run into more probl...

Problems with 4060 chips...
I'm in the process of building my first lit model - Deep Space 9. As I'm new to lighting models, I was following the instructions from this link: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/tech/cj_blink.htm. I bought 5 4060 chips and several capacitors and resistors as mentioned on that page. After making the f...
