I'd shop at radio shack it their prices were always like that but usually they are 10 times more $$ than mail order.

Somewhere in your circuit is drawing 9 amps . thats alot of current and will heat up that battery fast. 9volts / 1 ohm = 9 amps A typical 9volt battery only has a life of 1/2 amphour. your draining that battery in 3-5 minutes. I don't suppose theres anything you can just soak them in overnight to remove all that old plastic and filler? Acetone based or "regular" nail polish remover. It has enough acetone to soften stuff including CA, but they wont flash rust when they dry. soak the files overnight and hit them ...
