You could try with corrugated cardboard. You know, then one where a wave form of card is sandwiched between two layers of cardboard.
Careful peel one side off and yu will get something that resembles tin roof.

3 AAA = 4.5V so you need some resistors if you want to use a 9V battery. What kind of resistors depends on the LEDs (sorry can't help you there). a friend of mine once made rotating emergency light (just like the "real" thing) for a scratch built sullaco (spelling) but i don't know if it's something you want to try to replicate. It involved a tiny motor from a Betamax video recorder and a grain lightbulb set inside a yellow housing....

I have a small follow up question about the fusion core for the jupiter 2.
Is it a single ligth running round the core or is it 4 / 8 "banks" of lights that chase each other. ie, is there more that one LED light up at the same time.
