The navy has some good reading on electronics. Correspondance type course that I took while I was new to the navy many years ago and studying and working in electronics.

The first one starts out giving you the theory of how electicity works and goes on to describe electonic components and DC circuits.
I may have to read through that first one again, I forgot about those pubs.
The second one goes into AC stuff (obviously).
