Chipping Decals?

Post by Gauge »

I tried searching for this first and it came back with over 400 results, so I'm just going to ask.
Do I make chipped places in decals basically the same way I chip paint?
Thanks.

Guessing here... but I would say you would apply the decals, seal them and then lightly go over them with sand paper... say 600 to 800 grit.

Apply pressure as you see fit.

Just a guess on my end.

when they're still damp you can slice chunks out of them. Or do it with a very sharp knife before applying, just cut them. You'll probably want to buff them lightly once you apply them to keep any raised decal film from showing.

You can distress decals on the sheet by gently running a blade across them. The object its to remove the ink without removing the gelatin base.

Otherwise I just distress them on the model by painting chips on the model itself.

I put solva-set solution over the decals since the carrier film is on top of the decal transfer,I let this soften for about five minutes. Then I tear it with my fingernail. This works really good for me.
