Got a question about techniques, materials or other aspects of physically building a model? This is the place to ask.

1918 trench knife a tad off topic

Post by davidlgreen »

a freind of mine is going to afghanistan this march, so i bought him this trench knife. i cleaned up the casting, florentined the handle, and chemically etched his name on the back of the handle, and made a new pommel. for those who don't know florentining is the process of putting crosshatching on metal, much like checkering on a gunstock.

That's a thoughtful gift.
Science created airplanes and skyscrapers, but it took faith to bring them together.

Trust me. I'm a priest.
