I discovered this stuff a few years ago at WFest. Why does anyone use anything else? Is there some use that Acryl Blue/Red or Squadron Green Putty is better for?
Also a brief reading suggests I need to get my 2 cans out of the same ziploc. And apparently I have contaminated the brown can. It's hardening up. Is there any way to restore it? I've had it for probably 6 years. It still works well once I mix the 2 parts. the white part is still very pliable. Aves is currently used in construction of a Vulcan T'lar Class cruiser
Anyway, amazing stuff.

Baptized into the Church of Aves, correct?
As for why anyone would use anything else, it's a combination:
-availability of another product
-belief that another product is 'better' despite all evidence
-'"Squadron Green was good enough for Dad/Grandpa, it's good enough for me"'
Myself, I'm a big fan of MagicSculpt, which is Aves's separated-at-birth twin sibling. But when I need to place a re-order, it'll probably be Aves's from the SSM store.

I use Aves, A&B, Duro and Prosculpt. All have their uses and for the most part my finishing putty hardly ever get used. I noticed it had a layer of dust on it the other day...LOL

Brother Brown has it right, Linda. Baptized into the Abbey of the Brotherhod of the first Eccumenical Church of the Modeling Congregation of Aves. Nah, I'm not that hardcore, and I just got a tip to try the black CA that SM sells instead of Aves. But back to my question, is there any way to RESTORE the pliability/workability of the tan component?

Not that I know of. I say it's time to get some more putty.

I also like Gunze Sangyo's Mr Surfacer for surface correction - particularly scratches etc. Though the Wave black CA thinned with super-thin CA works well, too.

The ONLY time I use other stuff is CA cured with baking soda or Bondo-from-the-tube varnished with CA. I'll use them for a very, very thin imperfection; I use them when I am scribing panel lines and something goes awry. I don't want to wait for the Aves to cure.
The other 95-percent of the time, I use Aves, or thinned Aves, or Aves rolled into thin sheets. You get the idea.
I hope this helps.
