NX-01 Bussard effect ?

Post by sciford »

Can anyone help? Does the reddish bussard effect of the warp engines rotate (inwards or outwards) or does it just sort of flash colors (red/yellow/amber) randomly? Thanks for any input you might have.

I think we figured (for the TOS) they rotated outwards from the ship. Careful review showed that there was possibly one light that flashed behind the fan blade type device that was actually spinning in the filming model. That was one of the several other lights that appear as single light sources.

I might have some clips saved somewhere.

I did some homework on that effect and built a prototype, partly to see if I could do it, partly cause it was fun.

Most of the "rotating" effect is an optical illusion. The lights are actually just blinking on-off-on-off but at a speed that makes your eye think they are spinning. How do I know this? I build one!

This one will fit either the 1/350th NX-01 or the 18" TOS Enterprise. Its not a "real" kit yet but its on its way to becomming one.

I have been selling NX warp core modules for 2 1/2 years now. I can send video of the effect. It is not very good video, but you can see what it looks like.
