Compound on Clear Canopy?

Post by Mike »

I was watching a modeling video on YouTube on the construction of a Macross fighter. The inside of the canopy was lightly sanded and a compound was rubbed on the inside. The video was in Japanese so can someone please explain this technique? Also what kind of compound can be used?

Thanks!

We've probably seen the same video. A Rubbing Compound was used. Tamiya actually offers 4 grades. It works just like sandpaper. Any quality polishing compound (even toothpaste, to a degree) will work. You just need to get the surface smooth enough to restore transparency.

Hi Mike,

If you live in the US, you can probably buy Novus plastic polish locally.

Toothpaste has always done a good job for me, the cheaper and grittier the better!

Only do it if you need to. For example, removing the seam line down the center. Otherwise, a dip in Future is sufficient.
