What strips oil paint off of vinyl and resin kits?

Post by deepcore »

Hi

Anyone know what strips oil paints (specially Winsor and Newton water soluble oils) off of vinyl and resin kits? The oil is on a acrylic base coat which in turn is on an enamel primer coat.

Thanks

Lacquer thinner

I've used it to remove paints from vinyl and resin with no problems.

I wouldn't go the lacquer thinner route. It can soften some polyurethane resins, make some polyester resins downright rubbery, and leave some vinyls even softer than before they were painted

There are two godsends for removing paint.

1.) Oven cleaner - spray on the model and place in a large zippered storage bag. Wait several days and scrape off the gooey mess. WEAR GLOVES AND DON'T BREATHE THE FUMES.

2.) Superclean - get gallon at Wal-Mart and pour a bit into a covered bucket like an ice cream pail or three-gallon bucket. Let the model sit in there forever. Swirl it around a bit a couple of times a day for a few days. At the end, probably 80- to 90-percent of the offending paint will be gone. The rest will come off with the gentlest persuasion. WEAR GLOVES as the stuff will Superclean the oils out of your hand.

I think there is a removing paint sticky thread in here too. Check it out and see if it has any other tips.
