Hazaa! When I got home from work today, I took the clamps off and "tested" the bond by lightly prying the two hull pieces apart, or at least attempting to. Before, with just the 5 minute epoxy, the same if not less amount of pressure was enough to instantly separate the two halves. But now, it holds firm! I even let the plastic scrap tool I used to apply the Aves stick to the throw away palette and it broke before the bond gave way. This stuff is truly amazing!

How safe is the safety solvent? I mix Aves with my bare hands, is the solvent OK for bare finger usage? The bottle suggests otherwise.

Don't know how safe, but I have been using my bare fingers.

On another question.....

Do you have to wait for the aves to harden completely before you either prime or paint or can you just go for it?

You can paint over uncured epoxy. I'd give it an hour to mostly harden, though. You can also tint the epoxy with India Inks....

Similar to MagicSculpt. Much less goopy than MagicSmooth.

Yep, almost *just like* Magic Sculpt. Extremely similar in overall properties, techniques, and behavior.

Now, Magic Smooth has (for me) a much steeper learning curve and can make a hideous, gooey mess real fast. But the end results for it have been worth it.

I have both Magic Sculpt and Magic Smooth. I also find they make pretty good structural adhesives as well.

I love using Aves because I can form it into shapes much easier than putty. I am building a TOS-E and I used it to shape the dorsal so that I could make the saucer sit at a 90 degree angle like it should be. Also on the sides of the secondary hull where the top and bottom halves do not align properly. Aves is a wonderful product, and I am glad that this thread was here to turn me on to it.

Once again I come before my brethren to sing the praises of the Most Holy Aves

Constructing a P-38J for a group build on another forum

Gaps between some parts up to 2mm wide - could fly an X-Wing through them

The Blessed Apoxie Paste was the prime material to fill said gaps

Apply with a sculpting tool, smooth and remove excess with alcohol dampened Q-Tip

The gaps were filled, the close detail retained and all was right in the world

Truly there be nothing the Holy Aves cannot do

I just threw out my tube of Squadron putty, of which I am ashamed to say I used half of. Now in search of a local source of AVES. More news later . . .

Does the Aves sand easier than Magic Sculpt? I had to sand a lot of it last night and man was it tough.

Verily the most Holy Aves doth sand nicely!

I've used Sculpt to build up the Linear Accelerator on the AMT-TOS, and Paste to fill gaps

Both sand/file quite easily and smoothly - try it, you will not be disappointed

After my work with both, I tossed my remaining Squadron White, Milliput White and Milliput Gray in the trash - nothing but Aves for me from here-on-out

Is it softer that Magic Sculpt, and therefore easier to work into shape? Magic sculpt seems very tough to work.

Apoxie Sculpt is probably a little less stiff and it isn't as apt to "spring back" like Magic Sculpt is - that from my one try with MS before tossing it - water dampened sculpting tools work wonders to form it - and a little water mixed will make it even softer, but will affect the drying time and final hardness

Apoxie Paste is about the consistency of Vaseline - which makes it ideal for filling gaps, but less so for creating new items whole-sale

Both are relatively easy to finalize the shapes with file/sandpaper once dry

Neither of the two LHS's here carry the Paste either, they do have Sculpt and Clay

John and Linda use to carry it in the store, that's where I got mine from - maybe ask them why it's not available anymore from SSM

I see that I can order the Sculpt in 4 pound quantities from a few places. Doesn't seem they sell the Paste in that quantity though, at least not that I can find.

Anyplace you'd use a thin putty - seams, gaps, etc

The Paste is great for the smaller gaps that the Sculpt would have problems working into - use a thin-tip spatula or even a toothpick to apply

Between the Sculpt and the Paste, you have everything you need for any task - from scratch-building to modifying to smoothing

But I did receive my magic sculpt yesterday ... tried it out on my RM Colonial Viper and compared it to the Tamiya putty I used on my F-18 and

wow ....

I can only imagine Aves in action

Try WASCO at www.taxidermy.com. They carry Aves and I believe ship worldwide.
