Air Brush

I am looking at getting my husband an air brush for Christmas but know nothing about them. Can anyone out there help me out?? He does Star Trek models. I am looking to spend $50-$75. I know a lot of ones are more than that, but I was wondering if I could get something decent for that price. Otherwise, I guess I could give him a gift card toward a nice new air brush! Any help/suggestions are welcome!!

Specifically, the model about halfway down this page, the CR with a fixed 1/3 oz paint cup. This configuration is very flexible and suitable for most modeling work. With shipping, it's a little over your price limit, but the quality and performance are worth it. Tom Grossman might match the price for you, so give him a shout.

My Hobby Lobby had some Iwata's. Not sure if they had that specific model, but with their weekly 40% off coupon in the flyers and on their site, it is worth checking.

I will second the recommedation of the Eclipse. It's a wonderful brush, even for a 'less-than-pro'. Alot of people worry about double-action as a first brush, but it's well worth the effort.

It turns out that Starshipwife09 id MY wife

. She had apparently created an account to find out what kind of airbrush to get me. She ended up just giving me cash instead, so I could pick out my own. My local Hobby Lobby has an Pasche external syphon feed brush. How well do those work?

So - surprise not spoiled?

The Paasche is one I have had for almost 20 years. I got some silicone washers to replace the rubber ones (got them at my LHS), and just drop the disassembled parts into a jar full of lacquer thinner to clean them. A quick wipe with a Q-tip and paper towel before use and they will last and last. I've had the same washers on there for well over a decade with no issues at all.

Keep it clean, make sure nothing gets into the air line and then into the trigger area, and it'll last as long as you do. Also don't screw down the outer conical part too much to you might split the tip - happened to me once.

I've been through three compressors, but the brush keeps on working.

The Paashe H is a tank of an airbrush, and the one many of us started with. I can't fault the choice for a basic brush.
