TOS Federation ship strobes

Post by Shizman »

I can't seem to find any reference as to where (if any) strobes are on the TOS Federation ships (including the Enterprise). Does anyone know the locations of the (pre-refit) strobes?

I'm doing some conversions of the TOS Enterprise and want to make sure my strobe locations are accurate.

Thanks!

I remembered this being posted a page back. It's for the Re-fit, but might help.

At the top of the page click "references" and there is a link for refit lighting. it's a nice little flash that shows all lights, and lights under warp and such.

Thanks.

I saw this one a while ago, but I'm not sure it can be applied to the TOS ships.

I came up with some locations that probably aren't canon, but it's my ship anyways, right? :)

Only strobes I recall on the original Enterprise (the production version) were the strobes on the stern either side of the shuttle bay aft of the nacelle pylons:

Oh cool. Do you any more pictures with a little more context? I'm having trouble visualizing where exactly these are.

Right now, it's not a big deal, since I'm doing a USS Larson conversion, so I ended up putting my own strobes on it on the saucer top and bottom. When I build the Enterprise, I'll do them in a more canon way.

Here's a great site with tons of pics of the ship as it looks today:

Now that's a perfect pic and shows exactly what you meant.

That second link will come in handy too. Good stuff. Thanks!

I think in addition to the saucer blinkies, you should include a set on the aft-most corners of the secondary hull.

But I have just started the Loknar conversion, so I should put some on the aft bottom there I think.

I would very much like to see some construction pics of that. I'm most interested in how you intend to tackle that.

I got pretty far actually. It's not too bad so far. I had a weekend to myself so I went hardcore on using my Dremel on the resin to make cavities, lay down foil, solder and mount LEDs and route wiring up to the central mount point I'm using. I took pics along the way, so I can share if people want to see.

I think for the Loknar, I'll put a single strobe in the bottom near the rear and one at the top, on the saucer (behind where the bridge is). I learned a bunch while doing the Larson and what works and what doesn't am applying that knowledge to the Loknar. It's all about learning!

I had a chance this weekend to update my website with construction pics for my Loknar:
