Glue over Paint

Post by Gerry »

Noob question for you.

Question: What glue do you use over paint? I know glues tend to disolve paint so how do I glue windows to the inside of a primered model?

Reason for Asking: I'm doing my first attempt at lighting. Which means I've always just glued to the inside plastic. but now it's painted with primer and ... you get the idea.

I'm not really stupid [maybe sometimes].... but some simple concepts just escape me while I quickly grasp complex ones.

Something that dries clear like a white glue for wood or paper will work well.

Superglues can cause frosting on clear parts, and anything solvent based can, as you predicted, damage the paint as well as the clear parts.

Thank you. I hadn't consired regular household glues. I get caught up wanting it all to look "professional" so I forget that simple things sometimes work best..

I know some people use tape, but I don't trust tape to stay sticky in the long term so I never use it.

Watch crystal cement.
Dries perfectly clear and is tough as all get out.

Your local hobby shop probably sells Testors Clear Parts Cement.

That would be what I would use.

Watch crystal or Testor's Canopy Cement.

The only problem is they are fairly low energy glues and only as strong as the paint they stick to.
