Humbrol Mystery

Post by Ace Airspeed »

The scenario:

I airbrushed Humbrol enamel Matt 81 over Testor flat grey primer. I washed the model prior to shooting the primer and let it dry 18 hours. The finish came out more satin than flat.

I shot the Humbrol yesterday afternoon and it is still very tacky to the touch. I have a fan on the parts to help speed the drying, and the room reeks of enamel. I've never had this happen before, and I'm thinking that the Humbrol didn't react well at all with the primer. I dare not apply the next camo color until these parts dry.........and it's looking like this might be several days.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

How heavy of a coat did you spray of color on the primer?

Humbrol and testors are not perfectly compatible. Apparently the primer was particlly dissolved and the new paint created a gummy mixture. Often over time it will dry to be ok so be patient
