SULACO big scale

It's interesting to see that some modeler add realy quick the details.
It could be a nice subject on this forum; when to add details ?

Personnaly, I do all the main frame, then I detail the model.
I do that because details can make me crazy (when to stop...) and I can be really out of force to see a part of the model full of details and the other side is still in basic construction.
Also, building all the main frame help me a lot for the accuracy of the shapes and where to detail exactly.

Seriously, I've always thought some thing that large and in charge should be displayed someplace public, like a library, to inspire kids to read the stories.

What leukirix does should be his own choice. It looks like a small fortune was invested for just the styrene in this project, not to mention hours upon hours of work.
Personally, if I managed to complete something like that, regardless of the size, I would keep it and admire it for many years, before I would think of it leaving my residence.
Leukirix, you are an inspiration to us all.

Leukirix has a lot of model kits to take from, but also some parts has been molded to replicate, with resin, some basic shapes and details... Like ILM did 3 decades ago !

I built my 4 foot Sulaco 12 years ago...Wish I had as much reference material as there is out there now. Wasn't much back then.

Dood!!! You just sucked away every pathetic excuse I ever entertained concerning scratch building my own designs. Especially in the scale I'd be working in, (cuddly small). To say your Sulaco is impressive would be an understatement of criminal proportions!

I'm hoping you're planning to take it to a few shows/ conventions so others can appreciate the shear talent & skill that went into this. ...and I thought I was insulted with the kit that Halcyon produced way back when!! Man you were outright furious!!!

My first post here I think and best of all on the best thread I've seen about the most superb, scratch built Sulaco I've ever seen! Big big thumbs up and congrats Leukirix on a beautiful build. This is a fantastic project and the end result is a eye-popping, sock-blowing knock-out.

What's even better is that I love big scale stuff so this is just my cup of tea. Thanks very much for the thread, thoroughly enjoyed the last 30 minutes or so of oggling the model as it came together.

Just out of curiosity do you know how much styrene sheet and how many donor kits you used in the construction?
