Fiberglass resin - what doesn't it bond to?

Got a question about techniques, materials or other aspects of physically building a model? This is the place to ask.

Fiberglass resin - what doesn't it bond to?

Post by OdysseySlipways »

I'm getting close to drilling out the Tiger 1's hull for the road wheel arms and the bushings before i start glassing the hull, but am trying to see if there is anything that i can use to plug the holes perfectly, but not bond to the fiberglass or resin. this when when i do glass, and it's dried, i can pull out the plugs and pretty much just pop the bushings into.

so far i have heard the plastic milk jugs

anything else?

Silicone. You should have some of that stuff about.

I know that's not what the instructions say, but the kit's wrong anyway.

Well, if the stuff in a tube is meant to be caulking, the resin won't stick to it, sure, but it will be a b!tch to get out of the holes. As a resin caster, use mould making rubber to stopper the holes and not only will you get the perfect seal, but it will come out of the holes easily.
