3d Printed Model Painting Prep?

I bought a 3d printed model of the Discovery One, from 2001.

Is there anything I need to do to prep the model for painting?

(E.g., washing the model with either Ajax or dish soap?)

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I use water and Dawn dish soap. No problems so far when priming with Tamiya fine primer.

Please keep us updated, re tools and process. I have a few Shapeways prints that I'll be painting in the near term...

I've had a few parts printed in fine ultra detail, and they have a waxy coating. I cleaned them with hot water and isopropyl alcohol, then put them in a Sonic cleaner with hot water and dawn.

The grow lines were obvious, so I sanded against the grain with wet 1000 grit and that made the parts smooth.

Gunze Mr. Resin Primer 500 works nicely. Sanding that nylon is like sanding rubber.
