Using a 555 and a 4060 to make a strobe circuit?

Post by MillenniumFalsehood »

I've been wondering if this would work. I have a 555 timer and a 4060 cascade chip, and I'd like to set it up to do a dual blink circuit for the USS Defiant. I want to make the forward strobe blink, then the aft strobes. Can I set these two chips in such a way as to make this work? Is there a diagram that will create this effect?

the link looks like it should help and includes an ssm link about the 4060 chip.

the rc thread suggests using a 4017 instead of 4060 as from what I gather, the 4060 splits timing at various intervals per pulse for each pin while the 4017 would sequence. I'm a novice so I'm not sure, but it strikes me that using 2 timing pins on the 4017 would give you the alternating flash you want while the 4060 would just give different durations of flashes?

Thanks for the advice. It looks like the 4017 counter is the perfect solution. :)
