Testors acrylic clear paint staying soft...

Post by crowe-t »

Has anyone had problems with Testors acrylic clear not fully curing?

Sometimes when I spray Testors acrylic clear it stays soft.

I've had this happen with both Testors Acryl clear and Testors CreateFX acrylic clear.

I'm using Testors Universal Acrylic thinner.

If I use 91% Isopropyl Alcohol to thin the Testors acrylic clear will this help it cure better?

Thats all I've used for a few years now without problem. Are you spraying on days with high humidity because that could keep things from curing.

It was maybe between 40 -50 percent humidity which isn't too high.

BTW, what do you use to thin Testors acrylic clear?

I use either Polly-S acrylic thinner or Testors Acryl thinner.
and never more than 15% thinner.

are you by any chance spraying it too thickly?
one or two thin coats are all you should need.

I don't think it went on too thick. Maybe slightly in a spot or two but it should have hardened.

Is there any way to help the paint cure(harden) faster?

Crowe-t. I use both future or Testors acrylic thinner depending on the finish I want. I was thinking that perhaps the undercoats of paint prior to your dull coat wasn't cured could be a problem. Only you would know for sure. Other than that I would just make sure the bottle was well shaken.

The only way I speed up paint drying with acrylics is to make sure light coats are sprayed and sometimes I shoot straight air through my airbrush or sometimes a hair dryer.
