Basics. Colors. Types of paint

I realize the trend seems to be going toward acrylic paints, but I have an investment in enamels already and would like to try some of the prepackaged washes, etc.
So if I paint a model with MM or Floquil enamels, can I use Testors/FX acrylic washes over them?
Can I use acrylic paints with acrylic thinners for dot filter techniques?
Any other prepackaged wash suggestions?

it's ok to paint acrylics over enamels since the water based paint won't interact with the enamel paint. I've never painted enamel over acrylic but it should be ok too.

The main point is to not mix enamels with lacquers before painting as they have different solvents. I have mixed metallizers with Tenax paints to obtain subtle shade variations.
