Oddly, my laptop handles this a lot easier.
That's a bit strange, I've got a laptop and I have yet to get a 500 error, then again maybe not so strange.

Not strange - just lucky. A "500" error is at the server end of things, so it doesn't matter what sort of device you've got at your end. There are all sort of potential causes for the error, but when the database itself is pretty broken, one could safely assume that the internet server is not able to access the database properly.

As it happens it's been 4 or 5 days since I last had a 500 error.

Wow! Now it's practically saying, "Please kill me!" I get a 500 Error on 90%+ of clicks and a lot of botched page loads. This is on my tablet; it might work better on my desktop.

Evidently the hosting service isn't doing what they're getting paid for.
But isn't it all Klingon opera?

Today I'm getting a lot of the 500 error. Hitting reload will get the page to load.

Sometimes I need to log in again to see a post or to comment.

I found that using https instead of http seems to reduce the errors, but the server is a bit slow to respond.

I'll have to try this on my older comp.

Why aren't the moderators responding to this problem? How long does it take to send a message? Tell us something even if it is bad news, like the server is old and breaking down and switching to another isn't an option or the forum software is out-dated and no one makes it anymore because of lack of demand?

Something is seriously wrong and it is only getting worse.

It is getting tiring to constantly have to refresh half a dozen times or more every time I try to do anything here.

If going to that other address doesn't work, I may restrict myself to my laptop or work computer when visiting. Is it aggravating having to constantly refresh half a dozen times. Though, I am being goaded now by this to get a new primary computer...

On the Face, I left a message with Beth Hillary, Admin of the Face SSM, and she said she'd try and contact OneZero. That was a few days ago though.

Is it too disturbing that I spent about an hour looking for obits..?

Yeah, I don't know what the specifics about it are. Some mix of software and age..?

I started going to this address and now and it is working almost flawless. Still getting the General Error, but the difference on my oldest tower comp is night and day.

Thanks etssp!! :D

I use a link that dates from 2014 back when they used to notify us by e-mail that we had a response to a post. It worked fine until this crap started.

Thanks for the feedback about the https fix. I've made a new post so that other users will be able find the fix than having to search this thread.

That is indeed strange. I was pretty sure that most current browsers implement https by default and only do the old http if allowed by the user in settings or a dialog box. The "s" is for "secure" which encrypts the request and reply info. Otherwise, it shouldn't be much different. I suspect it may have something to do with cookies collected by the browser and cache settings which can vary among browsers, computers, and pages visited.

Still don't be surprised if after some extended usage of https requests, the thing starts acting up again. I have to admit I wasn't able to long on at all until I literally specified https to get here.

Hey, not one 500 Error today! I have been using https, so that may have something to do with it. If this continues, we'll need a new problem to have a vicious political argument about.

EDIT: just got an SQL error. Probably Harris' fault. Isn't the vice president in charge of that?

I noticed that under the old link I had a "not secure message". With the new link this is gone. With the new link the 500 error seems to go away although I still have the SQL error.

All this could be due to a software upgrade on the server that the older forum software can't handle well.

Since using the new link I haven't had the 500 error. I still have the SQL error, but compared to what I've been going through the last few weeks it is minor.

Same here. It's only now I can access it after about a week. It seems to me to be going the way of the old Eagletransporter site. That became ultra glitchy, the moderators couldn't be bothered anymore then it just disappeared.
