can stains from fingers be washed off silver paint ?

Post by BERT aka MODEL MAKER »

well i thought my hands were clean but after posistiong my lower j2 hull i noticed some staining from my fingers in several spots after picking it up a few days ago. these look like surface stains from the skin oils in my fingers and show up when there is light on the hull, i don't want to try and rub them away because that will make them worse, the hull has been painted for almost 4 weeks . Has anyone tried washing a part in mild dish detergent to remove these finger stains and did it work ?
thanks :)

From my experience, no.

Sand the area, and re-paint.

Wear gloves next time you handle freshly painted models - espescially gloss and always with metallic. Look at it wrong, and you'll leave fingerprints in metalizer.
