Hey all,
Im trying to figure out how to do battle damage. On my excelsior model I but sparkelers up to it, so it looked liked phased burns. What another way to do it with modeling supplies? How do you all do it?

THere's the construction phases. I still have to upload pictures of the painting and scorching. I mostly used pastels and the airbrush to acheive these results:

Cody's Coop has an excellent article on simulating battle damage. I've found a lot of it applies to spacecraft also.

The few I've done, such as the USS Earhart and the USS Challenger were done by making physical damage with Xacto knives and Dremel cutters and sanders, and then using a few shades of gray, black and silver to airbrush on the damaged look.

I tend to use my dremel and various sized bits. Basically it depends on what sort of appearance I am going for with the damage. If I had an airbrush, I would use that for the colors, but I tend to use a combination of flat black paint, shades of brown, and pencils for weathering.
I made an old enterprise model (I originally made it the ST:VI version) into the self-destructed version from ST:III.
