Taking off chrome?

Hello,

I was think of picking up a P.L. Jupiter II, at the local hobbystore, they still have one and its chrome. If I use Polly Easyoff paint remover will that work, I seem to remember someone using coke? Any thoughts or imput would be appreciated.

It should. So will bleach, Pine-Sol or Simple Green

Castrol Super-Clean seems to be the favoured stuff of the automodeling crowd. You can also use Easy-Off if either a) the chrome is too thick; and/or b) you are really fast.

If it's plated like the Polar Lights BTTF Delorean, nothing will chemically remove that plating. You'll have to sand it off. (I don't have the J2- I just remember my stripping agony with the Delorean)

Super Clean is what I use for stripping paint and most model-kit plated chrome.

Vinegar. Cheap and environmentally friendly. Takes a couple of days, though.

Another thing that might take it off is brake fluid, but you have to thin it or else it'll dissolve the plastic. I've tried it with pre-painted kits and it took regular paint off plus the chrome, but since the chrome of the J2 isn't taken off by normal chemical means, I don't know if the brake fluid will take it off or not.

I`ve had plenty of luck using Automatic dishwasher detergent.The gel type.Just put the parts in a ziplock bag,load it up and the next morning most if not all the chrome will have disolved.
