Making little models "fly"

Post by Kenny »

I am making a model and plan to include small fighters, in the past I have used very fine sewing needles to attach fighters perpendicular to a verticle surface.

Has anyone else tried anything different? I was thinking of perspex rods from the base but they will need to be 1mm diameter and 15-20cm long. Has anyone seen any that thin and are they strong enough?
That day, Vader was amazed to discover that when
fett was saying "As you wish", what he meant was, "I love you."
And even more amazing was the day he realized he truly loved him back.

like this? (he has a good "how i made this" section to go along with many of his models... impressive, and a handy learning tool)

Or are the fighters bigger than that?

Kind of like that, but I was planning to have 10 planes so wire may look too busy.

That guy's good.

Perspex rods in that diameter (yes, I have some that thin) are muuuuuuuch to flexible to be used for such a length. You can use those for a maximum of 2-3 cm, not more.

If you`re brave enough you can use thin GLASS rods. I`m too afraid to break them when the model is done, but they are much stiffer than plexi.

Revell Germany made several sets of models that are suspnded in air by powerful magnets. A large magnet is in the base and another in the small model. It would be easy to use the magnets in other samm models as well. The effect was very convincing.
