Right now is the time to get LEDs.
There are several different strings of LED christmas lights in multicolor, and white LED set ups.
They are running about $7 bucks for 60-70 lamps.

All the LED I have are rated at 4volts.
[edit]
While the packages say 4 volts, I built a power supply to run 4.05 volts, and,
it turns out, that 4 volt LEDs in christmas strings are not all 4 volts.
The White, Blue, and Green LED are 4volt.
The Yellow, Red, and Orange LED are 3 volt.
I burned out a few....

Even at 3 volts from a voltage regulator I built popped the yellow, red and orange LED. They seem to need at least a 10 ohm - 12 ohm resistor.
