A friend asked me this question. I have no experience using liquid mask. Perhaps someone here can help.
"Just a quick question. Has anyone used liquid mask such as magic
mask, parma, etc? I am using it now to mask off armor panels when detail
painting and find that it is very difficult to remove the mask from a
given part without scratching the paint underneath the mask. Does anyone
have a secret to removing this better?"

It's not easy. Liquid masks often bind pretty tight. You can lightly scribe the border with a curved blade, that helps. You can use tape to help lift without marring.

Place a piece of masking tape on the area to be masked. A small piece will do. Don't lay the tape flat; leave a wrinkle in the middle to grab on to.
Paint your liquid mask over the tape to the edges of the area to be masked. When done painting, grab the tape with tweezers and pull off; it will take the liquid mask with it or at least leave enough of a tear in the dried liquid mask you can list off with more tape or tweezers.
Hot water will also dissolve dried mask.

Thank you to everyone for your comments. I posted this question for a friend. I have been urging him to join the discussion forum so he can add further info about his dilemma. Here is a link to what he is working on, a completely scratch built Klingon ship.
