GLUE QUESTION, PRO-WELD

Post by BERT aka MODEL MAKER »

I have a question on glue, I have always used testors glue, but now i have a project ( acrylic) that will require a better glue. I bought some ambroid pro-weld ( recomended by kit maker) and want to know how this stuff differs from regulat testors glue? How is the pro-weld on regular styrene kits such as polar lights kits ? :)

It works quite well. It's a bit hotter than Testor's liquid - about on par with Tenax (but neither are as good as Weld-On #3. Wish I could find that stuff anymore.)
Progress isn't made by early risers. It's made by lazy men trying to find easier ways to do something.

When working with styrene, I swear by Pro-Weld. Like Bob says---it's a little hotter, but it fuses styrene and sets up waaaaay quicker than tube cement. I use it especially when scratch-building and adding strip-detail to Vacu-form kits. (for example)

One thing you must get if you want superior results is the Touch-n-Flow applicator. The bottle brush is VERY clumsy. Once you get the hang of how to use it, you have a lot less seams to fill at joints. Check it out here:

Or you could Google it also.

Hope that helps. :D [/i]

I use Tenax for styrene and CA for acrylic.

It's hotter, vaporises quicker (which means you have to work faster) but man are they nice (any of the three, 10X, ProWeld, or Weld-on)

This jupiter 2 launch gantry is very, very well made. Henry ( GXll) from the forums, designed these and worked since 2002 to get everything right. I want to use the best glue for this, and this is what Henry recomended. :D :D

I have one too, and when it works it is a wonderful tool...

...sad that most the time when I want to use it the needle seems to be blocked (although I carefully cleaned it when I put it away the last time), and it is really annoying to get it free again...

If I can find it, I also have a stand with an applicator bottle that the needle fits into.(vertically, of course)
Should the tip clog, I place it in the bottle and let it soak so the styrene residue melts away.

If I can find that link to that stand, I'll post back. :)

Matter of fact here's that link:

http://www.flex-i-file.com/html/adhesives.html

Also, about half way down you'll see the stand I was talking about----it's called the Fill n Clean. Heavy base to hold your glue, and it won't tip over. If you're as clumsy as I am, I recommend it.
