Never worked in this scale before....will doing this be completely out of scale for 1/144?

Try a Prismacolor Metallic Silver colored pencil. Sharpen it to a fine point and carefully pencil in a few "chips". The stuff is fairly shiney and does a good job of simulating bare metal.

Hi there! I wasn't necassarily asking <i>how</i> to show paint chip on the kit as much as I was asking if it was appropriate for that scale.....still though......that's actually a pretty neat tip lol and I will definitely be giving that a try sometime. Thanks!

Yeah, it is appropriate.

But keep in mind that most of the wear and tear most likely will be lower down due to the size of the robot(18metres+).

IMO, the upper portions will show battle damage but less wear and tear.
