What AB to get? First Post

Post by yuyuandy »

Hi I'm relatively new to the modeling world and I need an airbrush. I just finished assembling my first HGUC Zaku and now it's time to paint. Badger AB co. just happens to have a clearance / garage sale going on and I'm thinking of getting one from them. I'm not exactly knowledgeable about AB , but in general I need something reliable and easy to use.

The choices are:
155-7 Anthem ($48)
Vega 2000 ($40)
360-7 ($76)

Look for a Paasche H. try this: http://www.dixieart.com/HSet.html
Once you understand how it works, then you can move on to a double-action and still have the H for bigger uses. The H will last forever.

Go with the 360. You'll be much happier.

It just about the same learning curve as an external mix single action, just that you'll get better results.

The 360 and 155 are the same brush, with or without the rotating bit.

I've become a big fan of the integral color cup. I didn't think I would, but I am. As long as it has a well-fitting lid like the Iwata brushes.

If you're looking at the Vega/Omni series, look at the Omni 3000 series.

As long as we're muddying the waters, I'd recommend a Badger 200. Great workhorse brush. I REALLY have to get another, once I get my painting setup going.

I recently only took up modelling again. I had an old Aztek airbrush but was never happy with the results I got the couple of times I used it (not necessarily the fault of the brush).

This time around I picked up a Badger 360 and absolutely love it. I'm really only using it as a single action ATM but it's so easy to use, easy to clean and I couldn't be happier wit the finish I'm producing. My only complaint is the cup is a little small. I find myself having to refill a couple of times but still not using enough paint to use a siphon feed instead.

So if you haven't guessed, I'd recommend the 360.

i use an iwata HP-AH and its superb, but those i know who have the badger 360 swear by it - even afer using mine they dont want to change, so it looks like a bit of a bargain to me.
