sanding tool

Post by davidlgreen »

here is a photo of new sanding tool i thought of. it works nicely
wet sand, and the sanding media i use is a foam backed sandpaper made by norton. it is a battery operated toothbrush, from which i removed all the bristles and glued a piece of the norton sanding stuff.

That looks cool. :)

I wonder why someone didn't think of that before. ;)

Does it work well?

I've had one for a while and they work great - a really fantastic way to sand evenly.

You can get cheap electric toothbrushes (like Colgate's) for under $8. The battery is replaceable, too.

I use a touch of hot glue to secure the sandpaper to the de-bristled toothbrush head; it makes it easier to replace the sandpaper.

I've been using an electric toothbrush as a sanding tool for years now. After I cut off the bristles, I CA'd a 1/4" dot of peel-n-stick velcro (loop side) to the moveable part of the head. Then I cut a same-sized dot of the hook side and attached that to a dot of sandpaper. That allows me to vary the grit I'm using and when the paper is used up, I just cut another piece.
