Masking Help

Post by TD1701 »

I am currently painting my 1st pilot TOS Enterprise from Polar Lights. I am having difficulty masking the warp nacelles. The slots on the inside of the nacelles along with the patches on the bottom behind the domes. What is the best type of mask, and what is the best way to cut semi-circles? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What kind of tape are you using ? I use the blue painters tape with great success. for a semi circle, i have one of those plastic angle ruler that is a half circle and has different shapes cut out of it. ( i can't think of the name of the thing right now pain meds ) anyway, make a circle and then cut it in half I also use toothpicks to burnish the edges of the tape down over uneven surfaces so i don't get overspray OR underspray

Ah, semi-circles.
A set of punches are your best bet - check a craft supply shop. Some are single, others have a set of different punches.

I prefer Tamiya Tape for most of these things, it's very malleable.

Craft shops like Michaels are a great spot to find these punches. Look in the scrapbooking and office areas.
