Mad Max Interceptor weathering?

I'm working on the Aoshima Mad Max Interceptor. I have the base coat of flat black laid down. Any suggestions on weathering the reddish earth and dust on the vehicle?

You could use an airbrush, pastels and maybe a fine bristle tooth brush for adding mud splashes.

I'd start with some light underbody weatherin using an airbrush and some red brown paint. Then mix some of the same paint with some baking soda and lightly stipple it on the heavier mud areas. Then finish off with some gentle pastel work in a variety of red browns.

I'm weathering the 1/18 autoart Interceptor and fixing the seem lines in
the tanks and molding in the top spoiler, I'm using coloured chalks and clearing it in with acrylic, (if you don't like it you can wipe it off) there is a bit of white down the sides too but there are two different cars been filmed.

Lighten that black first. Fade the top with dark gray. Usually for black, I start with dark gray and selectively darken with darker gray. Rarely do I use black.

I only used a flat cloat of primer and pastel Chalk. Just a bit of paint for spots on the interior. I need to dust it again and clear coat it. I put the last batch of clear coat on to thick and made my pastle chalk disapear.

Just finished my Interceptor using coloured chalks, same thing happened to me with the clear coats too.
